Harlem Renaissance Orchestra: Lincoln Center Local

May 25, 2017

For over 25 years, the Harlem Renaissance Orchestra has continued to feed the fire of the Big Band Era. Keeping alive the tradition of their mentor, the late, great tenor saxophonist Illinois Jacquet, they closed out the 2012 Midsummer Night Swing season with their crowd-pleasing night of hard-swinging Big Band classics. Dancers paid tribute to lindy innovator Frankie Manning with a dance contest as the audience crowned the fourth annual Ambassador Prize winners.

Lincoln Center Local partners with your local library to bring exclusive free screenings of Lincoln Center’s finest performances directly to your neighborhood.

This is a screening of the Harlem Renaissance Orchestra which was performed at the Damrosch Park Bandshell on July 14, 2012.
