There has always been a love affair between Jazz and Brazilian music and Mia is a jazz vocalist enchanted by the music of Brazil. Mia and her ensemble of world-class Brazilian Jazz musicians bring joy, improvisation and adventuresome arrangements to the creative conversation between these two styles. With her warm voice, Mia delights in singing beautiful Brazilian melodies, playing in the waves of Brazilian rhythms and scatting her way through its rich harmonies back to jazz. You’ll hear Bossa Nova classics by Jobim sung in both English and Portuguese, compositions by contemporary Brazilian composers and swinging soloing that transcends all language! Mia‘s CD entitled “Encantada” was described by Scott Yarrow as “irresistable, inspired and extremely enjoyable”. Come take a sonic trip to Brazil, celebrate summer, leave your cares behind and let the Bossa Nova heal you, and the exciting energy of samba and jazz uplift you! Mia is joined tonight by Pete Levin on piano, Jason Ennis on guitar, Livio Almeida on sax and flute, Eduardo Belo on bass and Dennis Bulhoes on drums.
