Across the Universe: India

Saturday, April 11th from 10:00 – 11:00 am

We are pleased to present Hotchkiss student Mehar Bahsin “live” from Gurgaon Haryana, India! She is at home in India and will use Zoom to present her story time. Mehar will talk to the kids about “Diwali” and will do a small craft — Paper Diya.

Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights, usually lasting five days and celebrated during the Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika. One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.”

Kids will need paper, scissors, and colored markers.

International Story Time on Zoom: Colombia

Hotchkiss student Billy Meneses will join the NorthEast-Millerton Library and Scoville Memorial Library via Zoom from Pennsylvania to share his Colombian heritage with us – and lead us in a craft to make a pan flute out of straws! He will talk about the symbolism behind the Colombian flag and some of the important Colombian festivals. We will also hear a folk tale called “The Walking Tadpole.” (Frogs, anyone?)

Look Colombia up on a map before we start and feel free to ask Billy questions!
Kids will need 8 straws, scissors and masking tape to complete the flute project.
